Is iPhone 14 Waterproof? All You Need to Know

The iPhone 14 was released in September 2022 with great features like satellite emergency contact and dynamic island. Apple released four different models of iPhone 14: iPhone 14, iPhone plus, iPhone Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I have always seen people asking in the forums or searching online if the iPhone 14 is waterproof. The purpose of this article is to discuss the iPhone 14’s ability to be submerged in water.

Apple’s iPhone 7 was the first iPhone to feature a waterproof rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. While iPhone 7 can survive under 1 meter for 30 minutes, iPhone 14 can survive under 6 meters for 30 minutes. It’s a huge improvement, no doubt.

Is iPhone 14 Waterproof?

Apple claims that iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro max are splash, water, and dust resistant. iPhone 14 models all carry IP67 ratings in accordance with IEC standard 60529. In other words, it can survive under 6 meters of water for around 30 minutes.

A YouTuber named Black Mob tested the waterproof capabilities of both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro max for 36 minutes. While the iPhone 14 camera took a while to launch, the iPhone 14 Pro Max worked perfectly.

So if you drop your iPhone14 in water over 6 meters, it will also survive, but you can’t count on it to last long. When it is broken before dropping the water, it may not survive and you will not be able to get a warranty.

How Long iPhone 14 Can Survive Under Water?

The iPhone 14 was designed to withstand a drop of 6 meters for as long as 30 minutes, according to Apple. This means that you have plenty of time to save your iPhone. However, if you don’t know how to swim, do not take the risk of your life jumping into the water. In addition, you should be cautious of the sand and rock.

It is possible for your iPhone to survive for longer than you expect if you’re lucky enough. An iPhone was found by Miguel Pacheco on the river Wye near Cinderford, Gloucestershire, in June 2022. Once he returned it to his home, he found it was working fine, so he posted images online to find the owner. However, the real owner was Owain Davies, who dropped his iPhone while canoeing at a bachelor party in August of 2021. So the iPhone was submerged in water for ten months and worked fine.

Can I take my iPhone 14 in the shower?

Apple’s iPhone 14 has an IP67 certificate that allows it to withstand 30 minutes under water up to 19 feet deep. In order to avoid liquid damage, Apple always recommends not bringing your iPhone 14 while swimming or bathing.

Where to fix iPhone 14 Water/Liquid Damage?

You’ll get a one-year warranty when you buy a new iPhone, but unfortunately, your warranty doesn’t cover water damage. However, if you have  AppleCare+ protection then Apple will do anything with a liquid-damaged iPhone.

All iPhones have Liquid Contact Indicators (LCI) that detect water or liquids, such as oil, bear, or anything containing water. You should always protect your iPhone from water in order to avoid spending extra money on repairs.

The good news is that there are other ways to fix your water-damaged iPhone as well. A third-party repair shop can also help you repair your iPhone. The third-party shops offer all iPhone parts, so you don’t have to worry about that, and they are much cheaper than the Apple Store. Water damage on iPhone 14 can also be repaired by yourself if you have a little repair knowledge.

Conclusion

Every year, Apple releases a new iPhone, and iPhone 14 is the latest. With some great innovations such as a 48 MB camera, a longer battery life, dynamic islands and emergency satellite communications, iPhone 14 is a unique device.

Nonetheless, if you drop your iPhone 14 in the water, make sure you dry it first and it should work fine if you don’t leave it underwater for more than 30 minutes within 6 meters.
